Alchemist’s Lunch Meat EP is his latest ploy at conjuring up New York best-seller suspense. This is Alc’s first mention in 2018 since December’s double release of French Blend. This time out, he ditches his meditative nook for a group effort. Styles P, Roc Marciano, Action Bronson and Westside Gunn all make concerted efforts on the heavily stylized album.
Of note, “Massacre” continues the tradition of Alchemist production setting a cinematic tone for his vocal performers. Styles P delivers a verse worthy of pseudo-mafioso association. Alchemist creates an atmosphere in his records so lush and dissociative you forget the onus is the on listener to snap out of confusion.
Roc Marciano adds his leathery coke-flow to album intro “Dean Martin Steaks.” Alchemist delivers a crook’s theme that pairs evenly with Roc Marciano’s character-driven performance. Marciano is at his best when unleashed as a Doctor Zhivago avatar.
